Expanding results

Learn how to gain more context from Global Search results.

Global Search results in Validin provide more than summary rows. Most values displayed in tables can be expanded to reveal additional context in a slide-out panel.

Slide-outs surface supporting data, related artifacts, and historical observations without requiring a new search. This allows users to review detail, confirm relationships, and assess relevance while staying anchored to the original result set.

How slide-outs are accessed

Slide-out panels open when a user clicks around a value within a results table. This includes data such as domains, servers, IP addresses, certificate data, hashes, host responses, and registration records.

The content of the slide-out depends on the value type selected and the dataset it belongs to.

📘

Note

Slide-outs provide contextual detail for review and validation. They do not change the active search scope.

What slide-outs are used for

Slide-outs are commonly used to:

  • Review supporting evidence for a specific value
  • Confirm relationships without pivoting away from results
  • Inspect raw artifacts such as headers or certificates
  • Access external references tied to a value

Common slide-out sections

Although the content varies by value type, slide-outs follow a consistent structure.

Value information

Provides the selected value and its classification, such as domain, IP address, certificate fingerprint, or hash. Where applicable, this includes ASN, ownership, or usage context.

Observation details

Shows when the value was first observed and most recently observed in the dataset. This is commonly used to assess age, persistence, and activity patterns.

Artifact or feature data

Depending on the dataset, this may include:

  • HTTP response banners and headers
  • HTML feature extracts
  • TLS certificate details
  • DNS record attributes
  • Registration events

These details are presented in expandable sections for review.

Related infrastructure

Where available, slide-outs surface related domains, IPs, certificates, or hosts that share observed relationships with the selected value.

External references

Some slide-outs include links to third-party platforms or public resources, allowing users to validate or extend analysis outside Validin.

Registration data slide-outs

When expanding registration records, slide-outs provide normalized WHOIS or RDAP detail.

Common sections include:

  • Registrar and registration dates
  • Nameserver history
  • Registration and expiration events
  • Contact roles such as abuse or registrant

This allows users to review ownership context and historical changes without leaving the results view.

📘

Note

Registration data is normalized for consistency and historical comparison.
