Learn how to quickly search across Validin's datasets
Validin’s global search is the primary entry point for accessing infrastructure data across the platform.
Global Search is designed to get users from login to relevant data directly, without requiring prior knowledge of where specific datasets live in the platform.
Accessing global search
Global Search is available immediately after logging in.
The search bar appears on the Dashboard, or by selecting Search from the left-hand menu.
To execute a search:
- Enter a search value.
- Select Search to run the query.
Validin automatically determines how the input should be processed and routes the query to the appropriate datasets.
What you can search for
The global search bar accepts a wide range of infrastructure inputs.
Common search inputs include:
- Fully qualified domain names (FQDNs)
- IPv4 and IPv6 addresses
- CIDR ranges
- Certificate fingerprints or hashes
- HTTP-related values such as page titles or server headers
- Known infrastructure identifiers and tags where applicable
Multiple data types can be searched from the same input field.
NoteUsers do not need to specify the data type. Validin infers the query intent automatically.
How inputs are interpreted
When a search is submitted, Validin evaluates the input format and routes the query across relevant datasets, which may include DNS, host response data, certificates, registration records, and OSINT context.
A single search may return results from more than one dataset if the input applies to multiple data sources.
Search history
Recent searches are displayed in the Search History panel on the Dashboard.
Search history allows users to quickly revisit prior queries during active investigations or ongoing analysis.
Pivot history
Validin tracks pivoting history when pivoting directly from the links in the search results tables. This pivot history is available at all times as a slide-out immediately to the left of the search bar.
